Novel Neurovascular Therapies

for idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH)

A New Approach

1-2 of 100,000 individuals have their day-to-day lives dramatically hampered by IIH. The most common symptom is often an unbearably painful or frequent headache, sometimes associated with nausea and vomiting that is not relieved by medication. The headache often awakens the patient from sleep. At Serenity Medical we are developing a radically new approach to bring peace of mind and normalcy to IIH patients everywhere.

The sad truth for some IIH patients is that the standard of care is no care at all. Some physicians dismiss the disease. For those who refer patients, the treatment options include Acetazolamide and/or Topiramate, lumbar puncture with a CSF shunt, venous sinus stenting, etiologic treatment of intrinsic stenosis, or bariatric surgery. Stenting is increasingly becoming an option, while off-label uses of existing stenting techniques create their own set of problems.

Our Technology

Serenity is focused on a highly flexible stent designed specifically for stenotic sinuses—with a longer-than-usual stent. Today, sinus stenting is performed with arterial stents—often using two adjacent stents. The two stents increase the risk of cortical vein thrombosis. In addition, the Serenity stent offers lower radial force and less metal surface area.
